Hughton to lose god status   Leave a comment

Chris Hughtons Norwich City stand on the brink of Premiership relegation and into the abyss where he left Birmingham City to join Delia’s hotpot at Norwich City. Some Blues fans(Not me) Revere him as the messiah, the man who guided blues to the brink of greatness again in the lottery of the Championship playoffs. Lee Clark struggled to come to terms that some Blues fans just wouldn’t let him take over the the memory of the man they called a legend. Yes some did call him a legend and he’s still called that, I have heard it myself. Trouble was Chris was nothing of the sort, his team at Blues played unattractive defensive, lifeless “we won’t lose” football.

n4JJno1368015476The only difference between him and Alex Mcleish was the fact he was playing in the championship against teams that cost almost nothing to build compared to premiership teams. That close season he lost what many believed to be the heart of the Birmingham side, Ferguson, Phillips, both fled to Blackpool, Craig Gardner and Seb larsson both fled to that seemingly more attractive team oop north Sunderland. Then there was Cameron Jerome, gone to stoke, a team who will always be perennial relegation favourites…I hope your watching Jack Butland. Ben Foster went to WBA and was later followed by Liam Ridgewell. Roger Johnson to Wolves now in a league lower than us. so there is eight players that left before or whilst Hughton was in charge. Chris Hughton was left with a shell of a team but was able to bring players in, what I am trying to say is although he had financial constraints he was still able to wheel and deal much more than Lee Clark and also some of the rebuilding had already been done for him before he came in, Mcleish had left Blues with Curtis Davies signed in January and also with two newly signed players in the shape of Chris Burke and Marlon King, all would become pivitol players during Hughtons season and this for that matter. So what did Hughton achieve at Blues? I’ll tell you……Nothing, Zilch, sure Birmingham went to the play offs, we even managed a few wins in Europe, but did we go up? No is the answer to that. So back to the problems at Norwich. all season they have struggled to score goals, they have scored just 34 less than one a game and conceeded 53. At home they have managed a paltry 7 wins.
Having had a look on a few of the Norwich fans forums a few want him out even if they do stay up.  As the camera panned round at Carrow Road on Saturday it caught a look of despair on Delia Smiths face, it was a look that told the full story at home vs Villa saturday, yes we could be going down?. Norwich face WBA at home this saturday followed by their last game of the season away to Man City. Take nothing from the WBA game and writing is on the wall that the Messiah could find himself with the sack!
