Birmingham City have signed Robert Hall from West Ham United on loan.

The 19-year-old winger has joined on a youth loan until January 12, with the option to extend to the end of the season.

Lee Clark was not too hopeful that he would be able to bring in new blood before the Football League loan window closed today.

He wanted a striker after Leroy Lita’s early return to Swansea City because of injury.

But budget limitations, wages and availability meant that was not to be.

However, he has also been keen to secure a wide player to boost options and competition.

And he used his relationship with his former Newcastle United manager Sam Allardyce at West Ham to good effect.Hall, an England under-19 international, can play as a striker but Clark has earmarked him for the left flank.

Blessed with great pace and ball skills, Hall made his Premier League debut for the Hammers in September and has been a recent regular on the substitutes’ bench for Allardyce’s side.

Last season he had loan spells at Oxford United, where he scored five goals in 13 appearances, and MK Dons.Clark had to juggle his squad around a little to help free up some funds towards Hall’s loan.

Striker Jake Jervis has joined Portsmouth on a one-month emergency loan, having just returned from a spell at Tranmere Rovers.

Before the Hall deal was concluded, Clark commented: “If we could maybe get one through the door to freshen things up and put a bit of pressure on the lads that are already in the group that would be nice.”
