Birmingham City have been told they must pay Barry Ferguson’s wages or swap a player with Blackpool if they want to take him on loan.

Lee Clark wants to sign Ferguson, who left the Blues in 2011 following their relegation from the Premier League, but the move could now be on the verge of collapsing with the club unable to pay his wages.
However, a swap deal could be on the cards after Seasiders boss Ian Holloway told the Blackpool Gazette: “If someone comes in and takes up his [Ferguson’s] wages, he can go. He wants to play football and I don’t guarantee anyone that.
“I wouldn’t look to replace Barry with another midfielder. It’s an area we are strong in.
“We paid Birmingham £750,000 for Barry, so if they want him on loan our chairman thinks they should take up his wages rather than do a player swap. If they offer us someone from their first team, then maybe we’d look at a swap.”
Middlesbrough are also rumoured to be interested in the 34-year-old who has made seven appearances for Blackpool this season. #bcfc
