Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni defiantly refused to quit despite overseeing the worst competitive home defeat in Irish history.

Germany humiliated an Ireland team depleted by retirements, injuries and a total lack of confidence in a manager who appears to have lost his players and his adopted nation.  In truth Germany were awesome but no blame can be attached to any of the Irish players who were up against it from the kick off.  It still took Germany 31 minutes to break down the Irish resistence. It was only 2-0 when Trapattoni decided to try and go for goals and take of the Blues Keith Fahey and bring on Albions Shane Long.  another four Goals rained in afterwards before Ireland managed a late consolation to make the score 6-1. #bcfc bcfcfan.co.uk
