England Under-21s goalkeeper Jack Butland has defended the sides’ attackers after they missed chances in the young Lions’ narrow 1-0 Euro 2013 play-off win against Serbia.

Stuart Pearce’s side had West Brom’s Craig Dawson to thank after his second half penalty gave them victory at Carrow Road.

The likes of Tom Ince, Wilfried Zaha and Marvin Sordell missed chances to make the win more comfortable but Birmingham keeper Butland insists they have nothing to worry about.

“It is not a problem at all,” he said.

“We create chances and it would be more worrying if we didn’t create chances at all.

“We created a lot and on another day they go in.

“The keeper pulled off a great save from Caulks’ [Steven Caulker] header and it could have been a lot more.

“The important thing is we got the job done, got a clean sheet and we have a goal to take to Serbia.”
