LEE Clark has no qualms about pitching Paul Robinson straight into action at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Free agent signing, Robinson, 33, last played in April at Leeds United, where he was on loan from Bolton Wanderers.

“He’s experienced and his experience will help him through the lack of match fitness he’s got,” said Clark.

“He’s worked in the training sessions with us and looked good in the development [reserve] game he had, so it’s whether I choose him and see how long he goes for.”

Explaining the decision to take Robinson, Clark said: “It was needs must because we had two fit senior defenders inside the football club.

“It was just becoming crazy. I know you get injuries in football, but for us to get them all in one department i.e. the defence, when we’re limited on numbers anyway, was crazy.”

Curtis Davies will be back in the side due to Pablo Ibanez chipping a bone in his foot.

Clark said: “Curtis was unlucky and was only out of the team because Pablo had done well and was part of the team that had taken seven points from nine.

“It was nothing to do with what I think about Curtis. I think he’s an outstanding defender – a Premier League defender.

“But you’ve got to be fair on the group because if someone comes in and does a job and you get results, they must surely expect to keep the jersey.

“If I moved Pablo out of the team in those games then he thinks ‘what have I got to do to stay in the team?’. Now Curtis is back in, injuries permitting, we’ll keep him in for the rest of the season.” #bcfc
