Birmingham City have taken former West Ham, Fulham and Portsmouth midfielder Papa Bouba Diop on trial.

If the 34-year-old defensive midfielder is taken on it will be his fourth English club.

Diop, nicknamed ‘The Wardrobe’ by Fulham fans because of his huge frame, was a team-mate of Birmingham boss Lee Clark at Craven Cottage and won the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008 after coming on as a substitute in the final, where he helped his side beat Cardiff 1-0.

The Senegal international joined West Ham on a free transfer from AEK Athens in August 2011, but was released in the summer after making 14 appearances for the Hammers.

A Blues spokesman confirmed to Sky Sports that Diop was on trial at St Andrews.

If the club decide to take him on, he could add some much needed bite to a side that was humiliated 5-0 at home by Barnsley last weekend.#bcfc
