Lee Clark is waiting on the fitness of striker Marlon King ahead of Saturday’s big game against Brighton.

King has been suffering from illness all week and only returned to training today. Midfielder Hayden Mullins is also rated as doubtful for the game after coming down with illness himself.

“Marlon King hasn’t trained all week with an illness, so we’re hoping he’ll be able to do some type of session today,” confirmed the Blues boss.

“Hayden Mullins went down with an illness last night and he’ll obviously be doubtful getting it so late in the week.

“But it gives people an opportunity now – those youngsters that have done ever so well and caught my eye since I’ve come through the door. One or two of them might get a chance and we’ll see how they perform.”

Elsewhere in the squad, Clark will definitely be without the services of Stephen Carr (knee), Paul Caddis (shoulder), David Murphy (hamstring) and Pablo Ibanez (chipped bone).

“Pablo Ibanez has chipped a bone in his toe so will be out for a minimum of four weeks,” said Clark. “With David Murphy we’re looking at the Leicester game after the international break for his return because he’s got a grade one tear in his hamstring.

“Paul Caddis will have an operation tomorrow (Friday) and he’ll be three months. But one of the problems with Paul – because there is a possibility that he can come back a little bit earlier – is that being a full-back it’s the repetition of the throw-ins and that movement.”

“It was nothing to do with what I think about Curtis because he’s an outstanding defender – a Premier League defender. But you’ve got to be fair on the group because if someone comes in and does a job and you get results they must surely expect to keep the jersey. Now Curtis is back in and injuries permitting we’ll keep him in for the rest of the season.” #bcfc
