Lee Clark insists self-belief has returned to his Birmingham squad as the week has progressed following Citys drubbing by Barnsley.

Clark admits City’s Wast Hills training ground was a quiet place to be in the aftermath of the 5-0 defeat – Birmingham’s worst on home soil in the league since 1987 – but he has seen positivity back among his players ahead of this weekend’s trip to leaders Brighton.

“Sunday and Monday was obviously subdued. But that shows me that we care,” Clark said on Thursday morning.

“We never want to go through what happened on Saturday again and we never will. That’s the first time I’ve been a part of that, I’ve been part of teams who have had heavy defeats but the whole package about what we did, there was nothing to take from the game whatsoever in terms of positivity.

“We dissected that on Sunday and Monday, but it was important we got it finished off on Monday because we’ve got a big game to concentrate on.

“We can’t let that fester, we can’t affect the past, that’s what it is. But we can affect the future and certainly training on Tuesday, the belief the lads showed, the spirit, was back there.” #bcfc
