Burnley v Birmingham City

Burnley and Birmingham City will come into the game full of confidence after both secured good away wins at the weekend in a fixture that Burnley have had very much the upper hand at Turf Moor over the years winning 28 of the 45 games.Burnley who are safe in mid-table but still have an outside chance of reaching the play off’s which with a bit of luck and a win tonight could still be possible if they can overcome a poor run of results in February/March only winning 2 of 11 games during that period, but they will be a tough nut to crack having only been beaten once at home in their last 8 games.Burnley manager Eddie Howe will be looking for his side to consolidate on the 5-1 victory over Portsmouth and end the season on a high.Birmingham City are sitting nicely in 4th place with tonight’s game their game in hand on the their other play-off hopefuls so any points gained will be welcomed by Chris Hughton’s team. If they can gained another away victory to add to the 3-1 win at Doncaster in their last game it would put thing’s firmly in Birmingham’s own hands something that im sure Hughton will be looking for and so kick start a run of results towards the end of the season that will see them in with a chance of a return to the Premier league at the first attempt. The scene is set for another exciting game with both teams wanting a victory to enhance their chances of promotion

Turf Moor

Burnley look likely to start with the team that finished in the 5-1 victory at Portsmouth with top scorer Jay Rodriguez, Martin Paterson, Ben Mee and Danny Lafferty all looking likely to miss the game. With hat-trick hero from Saturday Charlie Austin coming into the starting line up.Manager Eddie Howe knows it’s not going to be easy but has challenged his team to finish the season off in style .

 Eddie Howe said

“At times we have been frustrated with ourselves, let alone how the fans must be, so there is a big desire in our camp to finish the season on a high so we can go into next season in a confident mood.”

“To finish as high as we can in the top half of the table would be our aim now,”

Birmingham City still have Stephen Carr, Pablo Ibanez, Keith Fahey, Jonathan Spector all still sidelined through injury so it looks like being the same team that played so well in the 3-1 victory away at Doncaster on Friday with 2 ex-Burnley players Steven Caldwell and Wade Elliott ready to face their old team. Blues manager Chris Hughton will be looking for another away day win

“We’re on the back of a very good result on Friday night but we can’t and won’t underestimate what a difficult game it will be.

“Burnley are on the back of a very good result at the weekend themselves. I saw the performance and it was a performance that was worthy of the result – so we need to be guarded on that one.”
