Match Preview – Doncaster Rovers v Birmingham City   Leave a comment

Doncaster Rovers and Birmingham City come face to face in this Friday night game at The Keepmoat with both teams having different agendas in mind .Doncaster come into the game staring relegation firmly in face and will be desperate for points having taken over at bottom of the championship despite a good away point in midweek away at Crystal Palace, manager Dean Saunderswill be hoping for a change of fortunes for the remaining games with Doncaster only winning 1 of their last 15 games and not won at home since January 2nd .Meanwhile Birmingham City will be looking to consolidate a play off place despite not having the best of runs recently with  only 2 wins from their last 10 games yet their play off aspirations still remains in their own hands having a game in hand on their other play-off chasing  rivals.Birmingham manager Chris Hughton will be hoping to avoid the same fate that has fell on them in recent weeks after failing to beat 3 of the bottom 4 something that has baffled both manager and fans alike. With these things in mind and both teams needing the points we could be set for a good open game something that might favour Birmingham more than Doncaster.

The Keepmoat Stadium

Doncaster Rovers manager Dean Saunders will be missing  Pascal Chimbonda(hamstring) ,Shelton Martis(Calf) ,Brian Stock(Groin) ,Martin Woods(knee) and will give late fitness test’s to Habib Beye (ankle) and Paul Keegan(knee) but both are rated doubtful.Good news for Saunders will be that Chris Brown is now fully fit and pushing for a start in place of the injured Keegan.

 Manager Dean Saunders said

“Birmingham are sixth in the league and have got a really good chance in the play-offs. Chris Hughton is a very experienced manager and they have lots of Premier League players.

Nothing seems to faze them and they’re not frightened of the ball, that’s why they’ve played so many games at the top level,”

“Some of their results will be down to fatigue. Let’s just hope the feel a bit jaded when they visit us,”

Birmingham City can welcome back David Murphy from suspension but will be making the trip north without Pablo Ibanez(hamstring), Jonathan Spector(hamstring) and Stephen Carr(knee) all still out injured and Keith Fahey who missed the home draw at the weekend also struggling to make the game and is rated very doubtful.

Birmingham’s Wade Elliott declared

“We’ve had a couple of good runs in the league this season and we need to do that again now,” he said.

“We’ve had more obstacles than most in this league but now our only focus is the league.

“We know that we’re capable of performing and getting the results”

“We had it at the start of the season when we went eight or nine unbeaten, so we know we’ve got that capability. It’s down to us to keep ourselves in contention.”
